Ibiza is full of magnificent beaches perfect for enjoying the sun and sea. We want to show you the more incredible and less crowded parts of Ibiza, idyllic coves suitable only for those who are willing to explore every spot of the island without worrying about the challenge involved and willing to do without the comfort of a sunbed or a beach bar, as what prevails in these places that today we are going to show you is the peace and tranquility that only you can only find in these hidden beach coves.
Varaderos de Sa Caleta, en San José
Many people, and even the Ibicencos, confuse the wide beach of es Bol Nou with the name given to the area of Sa Caleta, and that’s why the real Caleta, which is located further south, is relegated to the background and it is not as crowded by tourists who seek sandy beaches with restaurants, services and easy access to the water. We want to show the beauty that lies behind the genuine Caleta, an area that fully worships the traditional art of fishing. Sa Caleta is a hidden corner between rocks surrounded by casetas varadero (traditional Ibicenco fishermen’s huts) where you can see for yourself the beauty of this side of Ibiza, where time stands still. Here it is easy to see the typical llaüts (the traditional island fishing boats) coming and going in search of fresh catch of the day. This picture of peace, tranquility and tradition will make you forget the hustle and bustle of the nearby beaches. We highly recommend visiting this lovely cove and lay your towel on any plain and sit and enjoy the peace of this traditional fishing spot. And of course, don’t forget to enjoy snorkeling as here the long rocky coastline is home to many underwater wonders ideal for those who like to explore all the natural beauty that the island offers.
Es Portitxol, San Miguel
One of the most complicated beach coves to access is Es Portitxol, a fishing bay located between the coast of Sant Mateu and Sant Miquel. Getting here involves walking a long way through hidden paths, but after reaching the target you will realize that all the effort was worth it, as the impressive views you will contemplate when you reach its surroundings is priceless. And what is so special about this place? Its closed geography turns this cove in a sort of lake trapped between cliffs and wild vegetation where you will barely find any visitors. Another strong attribute of Es Portitxol are its pristine waters which seem to force you to take a swim. An incredibly wonderful place that you won’t want to leave. To access Es Portitxol we encourage you to study well the route, as there is a part that has to be done by foot and we strongly suggest to bring water and food with you as this is one of the most hidden corners of the island where you will not find the usual services of other beaches.
Port de Ses Caletes, San Vicente
If there’s something special about the northernmost village of the island, it is the inaccessibility of its natural treasures. This is Sant Vicent de sa Cala, one of the steepest parts of the island and thanks to this feature it still conserves unspoilt areas where to indulge yourself in the magic of its beautiful corners. Here we enter the paths of Sant Vicent to access a lovely fishing cove where no one will disrupt the peaceful atmosphere that prevails here. We are talking about es Port de Ses Caletes, a place so remote that you won’t believe you’re still on the island. To reach this cove you have to follow the path on the left after the road to Sant Vicent when you travel toward sa Cala de Sant Vicent. And when you get there… just be amazed by the purity of the land and seascape, crystal clear waters and the few fisherman huts scattered around this small bay. A wonder of the island that never fails to impress.
Cala Mastella, Santa Eulalia
The north of the township of Santa Eulalia has one of the best coastlines of the island. This area is full of endless sandy beaches of crystal clear waters, but while many prefer to enjoy the popular beaches of Cala Boix and Cala Llenya, we want to show you one of the most charming beach coves of the island. We refer to Cala Mastella, a small beach situated at the mouth of a natural stream. Here the crystal clear waters and sandy seabeds predominate throughout the beach area but if you explore the part on the left side you’ll also find charming fishermen huts where the famous restaurant El Bigotes is located, an ideal place for enjoying traditional seafood cuisine, such as its Bullit de Peix, unique in taste. The difference of this place from the rest of the beaches in the area is the peaceful atmosphere due to the little amount of tourists who come here, as to access to this hidden place is necessary to take roads which lead to other more popular beaches and that only few people are willing to explore further in search of places like this, which give a fantastic picture to take in your memory.
